When people pack their items, we usually are turning to paper, bubblewrap, cardboard and a lot of tape. Have you ever thought about having an item crated while transporting your items? When crating is an option, it can likely be a extra insurance that your most delicate items will arrive safely.
Today we have put together a blog post specifically for crating. See below for our best tips.
Fragile items such as heavy glass, stone and/or other heavy breakable materials might not be made to be handled in a moving truck especially if we are hauling long distance. Wooden crates are stronger (than boxes) and better equipped to handle heavy items. Crating definitely provides that extra cushion of protection for your irreplaceable item.
We will have a individual come out to your home before the move, to crate the special item(s). Once it is crated, it will be secured on the moving truck. When the move is complete, and the item is taken out of the crate, we can take the crate back or you have the option to keep the wooden crate. If you plan on moving again, you can save on having it crated again.

Crating may not be in everyone’s budget while moving, but when we do crating services, we usually crate the following;
- artwork, canvas boards, oil paintings
- electronics, TV’s, large equipment
- Large light fixtures, chandeliers
- Large, heavy statues
- Table tops, marble, wood
Crates are typically made out of wood and are made to fit the size of the item to its exact dimension. They are custom built by a highly experienced mover, or carpenter. .
Yes, crates can be expensive; but when the cost of the crate is less than the replacement or sentimental value of an item, it’s worth it. Crates will not be included in most moving quotes, they do have an extra cost. Prices will vary depending on the size of your item. Your sales representative will have more details on price.
If you are considering to crate an item, keep in mind that the crate may cost less than replacing the entire item. For further options or more information about crating, call us today to be set up with one of our moving consultants.
