Moving is a great time to declutter and start fresh. If you are moving soon, it’s better to deal with now instead of later! Unpacking will be a whole lot easier, trust us! If you have items in your cupboard that haven’t moved an inch since you moved in – why keep it? Here is a list of things that you should think twice about before packing.
This ranges from food, spices, condiments, medicine, hair/beauty products, cleaning supplies or any other household goods with expiration dates.
Clothing and Linen
You know that white dress shirt your husband loves that has yellow underarm stains – that should most likely be tossed. Any stained or worn out clothing that is beyond the point of being worn again can be tossed.
That blouse that you have only worn once or still has the price tag on can be donated. Try not to be too attached to your clothing. If it doesn’t fit and is still wearable consider donating it to a local Goodwill, Salvation Army or any other charities accepting clothing.
The linen sitting in your closet that has holes in it but you use it for back up – can be tossed.
You have a million coffee mugs sitting in the cupboard but only use about 5 of them. How about donating them to a local charity? You will save room in your new home and will save on packing material… especially paper.
Magazines and Books
Books and magazines take up a lot of weight. It will be much easier to recycle or donate all of these items. Most libraries, hair studios, nursing homes, shelters will accept reading material.
CD’s and DVD’s
CD’s and DVD’s are becoming a thing of the past. This is why you have Netflix. You can keep all your media on a hard drive, phone, computer or television. There are also programs you can use to burn disks onto a device for a price.
THESE ITEMS SHOULD NEVER BE PACKED
The following items are examples of items that AMJ Campbell, by federal law or internal policy, cannot transport. Please read below.
Items that are flammable, corrosive or explosive:
Automotive or maintenance oil
Charcoal lighter fluid
Food or motor oil
Nail polish remover
Food, plants or living things that may die or spoil in transit:
Open or half used foods
